In order to curb the use of illicit funds during the forthcoming Parliamentary elections, the Income Tax department of the Mumbai region has formed six quick reaction teams, deployed 200 officers and has set up a 24x7 control room, said KK Vyawahare, Director-General of Income Tax (Investigation) on Monday.
Vyawahare said that citizens can call on toll-free number 1800221510 and provide information about the cash movements. The citizens don’t have to reveal their identity for providing the information. One quick reaction team, will come into action, he said.
Vyawahare said that citizens can also report the information by email.
He pointed out that the teams will be able to act within about two hours after receiving the information. In the event, if the information emanates from other income tax jurisdiction, then officers in that area will be alerted about the illicit fund movement.
He said that the department placed a three-tiered system for checking the movement of black money. Air Intelligence Units have also been stationed at all the airports around Mumbai. After the end of fiscal on March 31, more manpower will be added for monitoring the situation.
