The International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-Hyderabd) is targetting to train 10,000 IT professionals in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning skills.

The institute, which is about to complete its maiden cohort for 400 IT professionals, is planning to expand the course offerings to Bengaluru in the next phase.

“We will then go to the National Capital Region, Mumbai, Pune and Chennai,” Ramesh Loganathan, who heads the Co-Innovation Practice at the institute, said.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he said the institute would train 1,400 professionals this year in the programme. “We will scale it up to 2,000 professionals in 2019, 3,000 in 2020 and 4,000 the following year,” he said.

The first cohort of the Foundations of AI and ML programme covered IT professionals from 127 companies. Majority of the candidates are with five to 15 years of experience.

The institute is offering the course in association with skilling firm TalentSprint.

“AI/ML is a deep and disruptive technology and we are making it accessible and digestible to industry professionals from diverse technology backgrounds,” PJ Narayanan, Director of IIIT-H, said.

Santanu Paul, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of TalentSprint, said that there was a huge shortage for people with AI/ML skills.

Quoting a study, he said that only one per cent of the 30 lakh IT professionals in the country are exposed to AI and ML skills.
