India on Thursday said it is ‘concerned’ over the health conditions and well-being of Kulbhushan Jadhav even as it has made the 15th request for consular access to Pakistan.
"We don't know anything about Jadhav's location or condition in Pakistan; it is a matter of concern for India. We have no idea where he is and how he is doing. Whether he is healthy and whether he needs help; this is the reason why we need consular access,” said Gopal Baglay, Spokesperson, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Jadhav was arrested by Pakistan in March 2016 on charges of espionage and terrorism. Since then there had been no official information on him to Indian authorities.
Meanwhile, India had summoned Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan to India Syed Haider Shah on Wednesday to make the 15th request for consular access to him.
India has also sought from Pakistan details of his trial procedures and to communicate “officially” the details of the process for appeal. Pakistan has said all legal procedures against Jadhav has already been completed.
“We have sought details on his (Jadhav’s) trial proceedings and process of appeal,” Baglay said.
He added that India is still awaiting response from the Pakistani government on the consular access as well as on the legal proceedings.
On being asked of Pakistan’s attempts to take up the matter with the international community Baglay said these are efforts to “misinform the international community which have failed in the past too.”
Meanwhile. Pakistan army spokesperson Major General Asif Ghafoor said that their authorities have rejected all consular access requests to Jadhav, who was given death sentence during a court martial by Pakistani army.
