India’s Covid cases continue to fall

India’s daily Covid cases are continuing to drop sharply with a 14 per cent fall on Saturday at 22,270 cases from 25,920 cases in the previous day, as per the Health Ministry data.

This is the twelfth consecutive day when the daily infections have been less than one lakh. The daily deaths have slowed down with 325 casualties registered in the last 24 hours till 8 AM. With this, India’s cumulative Covid death toll stood at 5.1 lakh. 

In view of declining daily infections, Uttar Pradesh is ending the night curfew from February 20 . Meanwhile, in Kerala, the daily infections were recorded at 6,757 with 16 deaths on Saturday evening. Maharashtra reported 1,635 Covid cases with 29 fatalities.

India’s daily positivity rate in the country has fallen to 1.80 per cent from 2.07 per cent. Ahe weekly positivity rate has come down to 2.5 per cent.

On February 18, 12,54,893 tests were conducted, taking the number of Covid tests to a total of 75.68 crore tests done so far. 

According to the Ministry, more than 37.86 lakh vaccine doses in the last 24 hours were administered. With this, the country’s vaccination coverage exceeded 174.64 crore, as per provisional reports till 8:00 AM.
