An insect was found in the food, supplied by a private agency, in a primary school at Hinjili in Odisha’s Ganjam district yesterday.
The meal was not served to any student when the insect was detected in the soya curry at Regedi Primary School, Hinjli, local Block Development Officer (BDO) Subhransu Mishra said.
The mid-day meal was returned immediately to Nandi Foundation, a Chennai-based organisation, he said, adding that instead of cooked meal, the students were supplied biscuits.
Nandi Foundation has been entrusted by the Government to supply hygienic and nutritional mid-day meal to 390 schools in Hinjili and Chhatrapur blocks and Berhampur Municipal Corporation area in Ganjam district.
After being informed by head mistress Shantilata Sabat about this, the BDO rushed to the school.
On July 21, an insect was found in the mid-day meal supplied by the organisation in Tamaya Tank Road Primary School, Berhampur.
The district administration has sent the food samples for laboratory testing and the report is yet to be received, sources said.
The district administration had disengaged the organisation to supply mid-day meal in Sheragada block after 67 children belonging to four schools fell sick after eating the meal in March.
