The Congress-led Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) has demanded the resignation of Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya for adopting a “vindictive” attitude by not including its representatives in tripartite fora and the International Labour Conference of ILO.
Issuing a statement after INTUC’s working committee meet in Mysore recently, its West Bengal president Ramen Pandey said the Labour Ministry’s stance that exclusion was on the ground that many cases on factional disputes were pending in various courts was aimed at ”victimising” the trade union, as there was no stay order from any court in the matter.
Pandey said in spite of non-inclusion of INTUC in the official delegation, its representative was elected to the ILO Governing Body in the election held on June 12, which “proved that the decision of the Government of India was unjustifiable and politically motivated.”
Earlier, the Left-backed Centre of Indian Trade Unions had also written a letter to the Prime Minister expressing its “shock” at the “arbitrary order” issued by the Labour Ministry denying representation to INTUC in tripartite and bipartite panels.
