Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will meet his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday in New Delhi to discuss bilateral relations, especially India’s plans of sourcing oil from the country in the light of the US sanction waiver for buying Iranian oil expiring on May 2.
“The Iranian Foreign Minister will be in India to meet the Indian Minister to find out if at least a part of oil trade can continue. Iran may suggest transportation and payment options to India to help circumvent the sanctions,” a person close to the development told BusinessLine .
While India has not openly committed to reducing its import of oil from Iran to zero, senior officials indicated that it may not be possible to buy from Iran as the banking and shipping systems would be under sanction.
