The Institute of Rural Management-Anand (IRMA) will organise a roundtable dialogue on the theme ‘CSR - The Road Ahead’, at Anand on March 24 and 25.
Policymakers, academia, corporate bodies (both private and public sectors) and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) will participate in the event to evolve policy directions for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) expenditure mandated under amendments to the Companies Act in 2013, according to a press release here on Saturday.
The Act mandates that 2 per cent of net profits be spent on CSR activities by corporate bodies crossing a certain threshold of profits (Rs 5 crore) or turnover (Rs 1,000 crore) or net worth (Rs 500 crore) in any year. Various estimates of such expenditure range from about Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 crore by 5,000-10,000 companies every year, posing issues of effectiveness and sustainable benefits arising out of such expenditure, Prof Jeemol Unni, Director, said.
