Scientists working on innovative technologies across sectors such as pharma and IT in government and private laboratories will now have a new opportunity to go back to the classroom.
The Indian School of Business in Hyderabad is coming out with a curriculum designed for these scientists to help them develop better business acumen and enable them to commercialise their innovative technologies by setting up business ventures.
ISB has been helped by a one-time grant of Rs 30 lakh offered by CEO of Laurus Labs Satyanarayana Chava, who is an alumnus of the institute’s post-graduate programme for senior executives.
“Today, scientists in different labs are coming out with innovative technologies. But there is a gap between the technologies and its commercialisation. Our new courses are aimed at bridging this gap,” Deepak Chandra, Deputy Dean of ISB, told presspersons here today.
The curriculum, which starts from July 29, is structured into four phases, with the first phase being a general business course and the subsequent phases more focussed on particular technology, its commercial values, market opportunities and setting up business ventures. The course fees range from Rs one lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh.
“The grant from Laurus will enable the institute to partially fund 25 candidates. The programme is targeted at research scientists, professionals from the life science sector, government officials working in research agencies and employees of financial institutions funding technology commercialisation,” Chandra said.
