Income-Tax officials on Wednesday searched the premises of ETA group and Buhari group across the country for possible ‘large scale’ tax evasion, said a department official.
Over 400 I-T officials were involved in the search conducted simultaneously in 74 places, including 48 in Chennai, of the group that has business interests in energy, education, trading, construction and automobile.
The search, which commenced early morning, also happened at group promoters’ ancestral place of Kilakarai in Ramanathapuram district, and at Tuticorin. The officials also searched group’s colleges in the city and at residences of promoters and their relatives across the city, the official said. “We have found large-scale tax evasion by the group,” he said, without giving details.
