A Jaguar aircraft of Indian Air Force crashed near here this morning during a training sortie and the two pilots ejected safely, the second such incident this year.
The aircraft crashed on a piece of uninhabited land near a warehouse of Food Corporation of India at Naini, about 50 kms from the Indian Air Force’s Central Air Command at Bamrauli on the outskirts of the city from where it had taken off at 7:25 am.
Police said that there was no casualty or damage to property on land.
The IAF said both the pilots ejected safely at 8.47 am and a court of inquiry has been ordered into the crash. “Fortunately, the pilots ejected safely. Other things like the probable cause are to be assessed,” Defence spokesman Group Captain B B Pande said.
According to police sources, fire brigade was rushed to Chaka under Naini police station area of the district’s trans-Yamuna region after it was reported that the aircraft had crashed.
In March, another Jaguar aircraft had crashed in agricultural fields near Shahbad town in Haryana with the pilot ejecting safely from the plane.
