The Moodbidri-based Alva’s Education Foundation will conduct ‘Alva’s Pragati 2013’, a job fair at Moodbidri on May 11 and 12.
Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, M. Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation, said that around 150 companies spanning across sectors such as information technology (IT)/IT-enabled service, hospitality, manufacturing, automobile, healthcare, BFSI (banking, financial services and insurance), media, sales and retail and business process outsourcing will participate in the job fair.
There is a drastic drop in the job market this year with all the major companies resorting to either freezing their intake or retrenching their employees. “However, we decided not to stop the pursuit in facilitating employment opportunities for the youth of the State by organising this job fair,” he said.
Nearly 4,360 candidates were selected in ‘Alva’s Pragati 2012’ last year. Nearly 17,500 students from 350 colleges participated in the job fair last year.
Vivek M. Alva, Managing Trustee of Alva’s Education Foundation, said that there is good opportunity in the manufacturing sector. Some of the participating companies are specifically looking at mechanical engineering graduates.
He said that ITI and diploma students can benefit from this drive, as some companies have positions exclusively for them.
Vivek Alva said that graduates can also benefit from this drive, as they would have finished their examinations by now and can bag spot offers to join companies immediately.
Highlighting the openings for nursing graduates, he said nearly 10 hospitals are participating in the job fair.
Mohan Alva said that registration for both companies and candidates is free. Job aspirants have to pre-register themselves online.
Prior online registration by the candidates would help the organisers in providing real-time data on candidates to the company. The registration can be done on the link provided on www.alvaspragati.com , he said.
