Intertek, a solutions provider to industries, has declared June as ‘national electrical safety month’ to encourage electrical safety in homes and workplaces. At least 12 people die every day in India due to electrocution and about 42 per cent of all fires occur from electrical sources. Electrical accidents are common with most electrical fires breaking out in homes and commercial areas.
Peaking electrical loads make the month of June susceptible to electrical fires, breakdown of electrical equipment and abnormal operations leading to accidents. Rajesh Saigal, managing director, Indian subcontinent, Intertek, said his company sought to raise awareness about comprehensive electrical safety, educate people about the electrical hazards and necessary precautions to avoid accidents.
