Absconding former Calcutta High Court judge CS Karnan was arrested here on Tuesday, more than a month after the Supreme Court sentenced him to six months imprisonment for contempt of court.
A team of West Bengal Police arrested the 62-year-old Karnan, who earned the dubious distinction of being the first sitting high court judge to be awarded a jail term by the apex court, from a private resort at Malumichampatti, about six km from here, a top police official said.
“We have arrested former high court judge Karnan from south India,” a senior officer of the CID told in Kolkata. Three police teams from Kolkata were camping here for the last three days and traced Karnan on the basis of his mobile phone calls.
The arrest came eight days after the controversial former judge ended his tenure as a fugitive from law with no customary farewell being given to him.
