JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar, along with a delegation of student leaders from the university, met Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday. The leaders thanked the Amethi MP for his support to the protests going on in JNU against the alleged efforts by the Centre and the Sangh Parivar to paint it as a “hub of anti nationals”.
Rahul’s office tweeted that he met a delegation of student leaders from AISF and also the JNUSU president. Roji M John, leader of the Congress’s students outfit who was also present at the meeting, said Rahul offered all support to the students on issues of discrimination. “He said he was with the students on issues such as the death of Rohith Vemula and attacks against JNU. He assured us all of support in the future too,” John said, adding that it was a courtesy call.
Protecting autonomy “They thanked him for his continuous support ever since the issue started. Gandhi not only supported the students at JNU but also FTII and IIT-Madras where students have been protesting against the way government is attacking institutions. We will continue this fight to protect autonomy of institutions,” he added.
The students also expressed concern at the activities of RSS to control universities.
