Kolkata, its suburbs and parts of West Bengal and other eastern states like Bihar felt tremors at around 12 noon today.
Tremors were felt for nearly 2 minutes here in the city and nearby suburbs.
The earthquake had its epicentre in Nepal.
In Kolkata, with high-rises shaking, people came out of the buildings and on to the streets. However, there are no reports of death or any serious damage to property as of yet.
The city's Metro rail services have been temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure.
