The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the due date for filing of income-tax returns to August 5. The due date for filing of income-tax returns was July 31. But following the unprecedented surge in the number of returns being e-filed, the CBDT has extended the due date to August 5.
During this year, as many as 92.03 lakh returns have been e-filed up to July 30. This is 46.8 per cent higher than the returns e-filed during the corresponding period last fiscal.
“Due to large number of taxpayers accessing e-filing Web site on due date of filing, some cases of taxpayers not being able to access the e-filing portal have been reported. These problems are primarily due to network constrains of the local internet service providers,” CBDT said in a statement.
As a measure of taxpayer convenience, the due date has been extended, CBDT said.
