A recent revelation by the Election Commission of India has exposed the ground reality about the state of liquor prohibition in Gujarat.
As per the details provided by the Chief Election Commissioner, V S Sampat, Gujarat has recorded reasonably high amount of liquor compared to other states.
"So far, liquor worth Rs 12.57 crore has been seized in Gujarat. This is reasonably high for a state like Gujarat where liquor is prohibited,'' Sampat noted.
The Election Commission has also seized cash worth Rs 2.2 crore from the state. Gujarat will go to a single-phase polling on April 30.
Also, the Commission has identified 43 Assembly Constituencies in the state which are expense sensitive. It will give special attention to such constituencies, he said.
As a part of its routine review meeting, top officials of the Election Commission had visited Gujarat on Monday. Akshay Raut, DG, ECI, and PK Dash, DG, ECI, also accompanied Sampath during media interaction.
