The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day minutes after the lower house re-assembled at noon on Thursday. Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge urged the Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to take up for discussion the notices of no-confidence motion moved against the current council of ministers.
With several MPs, especially from the AIADMK, shouting slogans and showing placards in the well of the House, the Speaker expressed her inability to verify whether 50 MPs supported the motion. The rules of procedure requires the Speaker to verify whether 50 MPs support the motion by asking them to stand at their seats and taking a count.
As the protesting MPs declined to heed her request to return to their seats, the Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the lower house for the day. Since March 16 this year, the Lok Sabha Speaker has every day expressed her inability to count the MPs supporting the no-confidence motion, as members have rushed into the the well of the House and raised slogans.
