India Met Department has forecast heavy rain over south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for the rest of today (Saturday).
Satellite pictures at noon showed clouds having invaded the areas mainly in the South-East (Tuticorin-Ramanathapuram-Karaikudi), South-Central (Cuddalore-Puducherry-Tiruvannamalai-Tirpupattur) and North Tamil Nadu (Mahabalipuram-Kanchipuram-Sriperumbudur-interior Chennai) at noon.
The clouding is attributed to the low-pressure area that formed within the larger trough over the Southeast Bay of Bengal. The 'low' could intensify into a well-marked 'low' by tomorrow (Sunday), a Met Department update said.
Given the presence of a 'low' in Southeast Bay of Bengal, the larger trough therein and a pre-existing 'low' over West-Central and adjoining East-Central Arabian Sea (remnant of an earlier deep depression from the Bay), the Met has given out the following rain forecast.
Tomorrow (Sunday): Heavy to very heavy rain at a few places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.
Extremely heavy rain
Monday : Heavy to very heavy rain at a few places with extremely heavy rain at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and heavy rain over Rayalaseema, south interior Karnataka and Kerala.
Tuesday : Heavy to very heavy rainfall at few places with extremely heavy rain at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over Rayalaseema and heavy over south interior Karnataka and Kerala.
Wednesday: Heavy to very heavy rain at a few places and extremely heavy rain at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over Rayalaseema and heavy over south interior Karnataka and Kerala.
Extended outlook
An extended outlook valid for three days from Thursday to Saturday spoke about the possibility of rain or thundershowers at many places over Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh.
The rains will get considerably scaled up over the rest of South Peninsular India during this period.
