West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has condoled the death of 1970s Bengali and Hindi silver screen icon Suchitra Sen.
“It is a huge loss for the state. We will peacefully pay our homage to Suchitra Sen and her family has requested us to keep her last rites a low-profile one,” Banerjee told reporters here.
Sen died of heart attack this morning after suffering from acute respiratory problems for almost three weeks.
The Chief Minister also said that she respected Suchitra Sen’s decision to lead a secluded life for more than three decades. “Suchitra Sen had kept herself away from public light for long. We will pay our richest tribute to her, but also respect her family’s privacy,” she added.
According to Mamata, “the actress was beyond all awards.’’
