From the Capital’s biggest wholesale fruit and vegetable market in Azadpur Mandi to the RBI headquarters, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal led a crowd of supporters to warn Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “widespread unrest” if the demonetisation drive is not halted within three days.

While Mamata termed the measure “dictatorial”, Kejriwal said it is the “biggest scam” in Independent India.

“Take back this decision in three days. Do not test people’s patience, there will be bagawat (revolt),” said Kejriwal at Azadpur Mandi.

He alleged that demonetisation is being carried out to write-off around ₹8 lakh crore of loan owed by Modi’s “corporate friends” by collecting ₹10 lakh crore from the common people through the exercise.

“Black money is flooding the market again. Notes are being home delivered to some people. This is Independent India’s biggest scam. The government wants to amass ₹10 lakh crore by forcing people to deposit their money in banks and use that amount to write off loans of Modiji’s friends,” said Kejriwal.

“How much currency is needed? How much has been printed? What is the capacity? How many more days will it take? Me and Mamatadi at RBI to get this information,” tweeted Kejriwal as the leaders demonstrated outside RBI gates.

In her address, Mamata attacked the Prime Minister and made light of the argument that people should use plastic money, saying only 4 per cent people in India use cards for transactions.

“PM Modi has broken Constitutional rules. Why did you (Modi) not make a proper plan before implementation? The common man is suffering. We are giving you three days. If you do not fix this, we will fix you. We are still alive,” she asserted.

Mamata further challenged the Centre to take any action against her. “I am not scared. I will continue my fight. If you have courage, put me in jail, shoot me,” she said.
