West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be leaving for Bangalore on April 4 to meet eminent playback singer Manna Dey who is not keeping well. “I am going to Bangalore on April 4 to meet Manna Dey who is not keeping well. I will return the next day. He was invited to attend the IPL opening programme today but he will not be able to come because of his illness,” Banerjee said.
Banerjee said her Government would felicitate the 94-year-old singer with ‘Maha Sangeet Samman’ award during the coming Sangeet Mela in Kolkata.
Born on May 1, 1919, and named Prabodh Chandra Dey, who became popular as Manna Dey, was honoured with the prestigious Padma Shree in 1971, Padma Bhusan in 2005 and the Dadasaheb Phalke in 2007.
