Mangalore International Airport has recorded a growth of 21.51 per cent in passenger handling during 2013-14. It has handled 12.55 lakh passengers in 2013-14 against 10.32 lakh in 2012-13.
A press statement by JT Radhakrishna, Director of Mangalore International Airport, Airports Authority of India, said that for the first time the number of passengers handled at the airport has crossed the 12.5-lakh mark.
The number of international passengers using the Mangalore airport increased to 4.13 lakh during 2013-14 from 2.67 lakh in the previous fiscal, recording a growth of 54.68 per cent.
Air India Express and Jet Airways connect Mangalore International Airport with many destinations in the Gulf region.
The statement said that 8.41 lakh domestic passengers used the airport in 2013-14 against 7.64 lakh in 2012-13, recording a growth of 10.1 per cent.
The gross revenue of the airport stood at ₹63.89 crore in 2013-14.
Radhakrishna said that the Airports Authority of India expects a growth of more than 10 per cent in passenger traffic during 2014-15.
