Bahujan Samaj Party president and former UP Chief Minister Mayawati has appealed to the people of Andhra Pradesh to give Pawan Kalyan, “a young, dynamic, dedicated leader”, a chance to to serve them.
She was speaking here on Wednesday along with Janasena president and film actor Pawan Kalyan. She came to campaign for the Janasena-BSP-Left alliance candidates.
For the first time, the BSP is contesting in 21 Assembly constituencies and three Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh in alliance with Janasena.
Mayawati said both the Congress and the BJP had let down Andhra Pradesh and the latter in particular by not granting the promised special category status to Andhra Pradesh after the bifurcation of the State.
“People of the State are looking for a change and young blood in politics and they are tired of the opportunistic politics of these parties, including the YSR Congress. Therefore, our alliance stands a good chance in the elections. I want to see Pawan Kalyan as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. He will usher in the much-needed change,” she said.
Asked whether she was in the race to become Prime Minister, she said it would depend on the poll outcome and the desire of the people.
Pawan Kalyan said “Behan Mayawati” was a tall leader with proven track record of administration and the country needed her services as Prime Minister.
Mayawati said that in UP, the BSP, Samajwadi Party and its allies were all set to sweep the elections, teaching the BJP a lesson. She said that in other States also, the parties that subscribe to their ideology would come together after the elections.
