Social activist Medha Patkar on Monday said Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has been making “false claims” that Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh are using free electricity from Sardar Sarovar dam.
According to her, Modi is pursuing his agenda of raising the height of the Sardar Sarovar dam from the current 122 metres to 138 metres through these claims.
“Modi’s recent claim in large gathering that Madhya Pradesh receiving free electricity is absolute lie as every unit of the power is to be purchased at Rs 2.10. The claims are attempts by the Modi-Shivraj (Singh Chouhan) nexus to raise the hollow issue of delayed benefits due to the Sardar Sarovar dam project SSP,” Patkar said.
She was here to address a seminar on balanced approach to the New Land Acquisition Act, 2013 by the MCC Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
Patkar also criticised Modi’s development model followed in Gujarat.
“The Gujarat model is only pro-corporate and not for the common man. In every part of the state, there are conflicts over forcible land acquisition. Any industry that plans to have a project in Gujarat gets land as the government has been snatching land from the poor without caring for their rehabilitation,” she Patkar.
