Met upgrades forecast to 'heavy to very heavy rain' over TN

The India Met Department has upgraded forecasts to 'heavy to very rain' over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry today and tomorrow (Sunday and Monday).

Earlier, the US Climate Prediction Centre has extended heavy rain forecast for Chennai and neighbourhood up to December 4.

CLOUD COVERAGE

Current satellite pictures show thunderclouds having grown in intensity and expanded coverage over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Since this (Sunday) morning, it has been raining or thunderstorms had broken out over Kanchipuram and Vellore, close to Chennai, and Chidambaram, Kumbakonam, Tiruchirappalli, Thanjavur, Madurai, Dindigul and the hill town of Kodaikanal.

Thundershowers are also being reported from Jaffna and Vavuniya in Sri Lanka, which lies just to the South-South-East.

MET FORECAST

India Met Department forecast for the next few days is as follows:

Today (Sunday) : Heavy to very rain at isolated places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Thunderstorms accompanied by hail and lightning over Madhya Maharashtra.

Tomorrow (Monday) : Heavy to very rain at isolated places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and heavy at isolated places over Kerala and Lakshadweep.

Tuesday : Heavy rain at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

There is no weather warning for Wednesday as of now, but rains breaking out over Andaman and Nicobar Islands may indicate a fresh rain wave directed towards Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in due course.
