The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Wednesday appealed to the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana not to be influenced by unscrupulous agencies in getting LPG connections.

In an official statement, the Ministry said it has come to the government’s notice that in certain areas people posing as government appointed NGOs were trying to contact beneficiaries for facilitating the release of LPG connections under PMUY.

“A few people associated with one such fraud agency operating in the Bareilly area had been arrested by the local police. It is brought to the notice of all concerned that the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has not appointed any NGO or any other agency for releasing LPG connections under PMUY,” an official statement said.

“PMUY is aimed at providing LPG connections to poor families as part of ensuring smokeless kitchens…LPG connections under PMUY are released only by authorised LPG distributors,” the statement added.

The Ministry also asked beneficiaries to only approach the LPG distributors of public sector oil marketing companies such as Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.
