The Centre has listed 41 legislations for the consideration of the Winter Session of Parliament. The session will have 14 sittings starting Friday.
The Bills for consideration and passage include the Financial Resolution and Deposit Insurance (FRDI) Bill, which is under the consideration of a joint committee of Parliament.
The Opposition has demanded discussions on the situation in Kerala and Tamil Nadu following Cyclone Ockhi, ‘growing unemployment and rising prices’ post GST and demonetisation, and the increase in incidents of violence spearheaded by fringe groups and gau rakshaks .
Addressing leaders of all parties in the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha at a meeting convened by the Parliamentary Affairs Ministry, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said it is important that all parties support the conduct of business in both the Houses, and constructive discussion takes place on issues of national importance. He urged the members to spend more time in Parliament work so that policy-making benefits.
A release from the Parliamentary Affairs Ministry further said Modi urged all parties to form a national consensus on the issue of simultaneous elections of State Assemblies and Parliament. “Modi requested all the parties to rise above political considerations on this issue so that development projects may be implemented across the country in full force rather than being interrupted by frequent elections,” the release said.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar told reporters the Centre has requested the Opposition’s cooperation for the smooth functioning of the House. Twenty-five Bills are pending in the Lok Sabha while 39 are pending in the Rajya Sabha, he added.
The Central Goods and Services Tax (Compensation to States) Bill, the Indian Forest (Amendment) Bill, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, the Consumer Protection Bill, the ‘Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes and Protection of Interest of Depositors’ Interest Bill, the Negotiable Instruments (Amendment) Bill, the Dentists (Amendment) Bill and the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill are some of the Bills that are listed for introduction, consideration and passage. The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, the Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, the Financial Resolution and Deposit Insurance (FRDI) Bill, the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill and the Whistle Blowers Protection (Amendment) Bill are also under consideration off the House.
