From his hometown in Vadnagar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched the intensified Mission Indradhanush - an accelerated immunisation programme for coverage of all.
On the second day of his two-day visit to Gujarat, Modi visited his hometown Vadnagar- first time as the PM - amid festive celebrations to receive the 'son-of-soil'.
Re-launching the immunisation programme, Modi announced, "Immunisations have been taking place in our country since 1985. But those were government initiatives, while we have transformed it into a public movement. For the next four months, this movement will continue. I appeal people to join this programme."
The scheme targets to cover full immunisation coverage by 2018.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister conducted a roadshow in Vadnagar town before performing pooja at 17th-Century Hatkeshwar temple.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated the newly-built medical college with a 700-bed hospital.
Taking on the critics of his development model, Modi listed out the development works undertaken at the small town of Vadnagar. "Do you think this is development (vikas)?.. Do you like the development?.. do you want development?.." Modi asked the crowd, which joined him in assertive.
Modi's comments came as a response to the aggressive social media campaign by the Congress that mocked the development saying, "Vikas Gando thayo." "The development has gone mad."
Later in the day, Modi will visit Bharuch, where he will inaugurate public projects and lay foundation stone for the Bhadbhut barrage project on river Narmada in Bharuch district.
