Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, today laid the foundation stone for Leh-Kargil-Srinagar transmission system.
He also dedicated the 45 MW Nimoo Bazgo Hydroelectric Project to the nation.
After the foundation stone laying ceremony, Modi said that the Government is planning special projects including large-scale organic farming for development of all Himalayan states.
He announced that Government will bring ‘kesar’ (saffron) revolution in Jammu and Kashmir.
Modi further said that the government will fight corruption with full strength and take along people fighting graft.
Modi arrived here today on his maiden visit to inaugurate hydro-power projects and lay the foundation stone for the 349-km Leh-Srinagar transmission line.
He was received at the airport by Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra, state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Army Chief General D.S Suhag and other senior officials.
Modi’s visit to Leh and Kargil – his second to Jammu and Kashmir after assuming office – is expected to touch on demands of locals in Leh and Kargil including employment generation and an assurance to take up with China and Pakistan respectively the issue of opening of Mansarovar road from Leh and re-opening of Kargil-Skardu road.
The Prime Minister will also address public meetings at Leh and Kargil.
Leh town is all decked up for the Prime Minister's visit with hoardings erected at various places and BJP’s Lotus flag seen prominently at various traffic intersections.
