The monsoon has managed to end a hiatus and resume progress on the West Coast, Peninsular India and East India, making a delayed entry into Veraval, Amreli and Ahmedabad in Gujarat this morning.
The alignment of the northern limit further connected Khandwa (Madhya Pradesh); Amravati and Gondia (Maharashtra); Titlagarh and Cuttack (Odisha);and Midnapore (Bengal) this noon.
MAJOR FEATURES
Two major features signifying the growing strength of the monsoon is a full developed offshore trough that lies extended all the way from South Gujarat to Kerala, and the East-West shear zone.
The strength of the offshore trough is a proxy for the building strength of the monsoon. A receptacle of seasonal moisture, it had been lying truncated until now from Maharashtra/Karnataka coast to Kerala.
Similarly, the East-West shear zone of turbulence is an area higher up in the atmosphere where the monsoon features manifest to the maximum.
It is also known as the 'monsoon playground' which a strong and stable monsoon draws its sustenance from. Its alignment connects the cities of Nashik, Aurangabad, Rishod, Chandrapur ad Bhawanipatna.
Meanwhile, the monsoon has entered Saurashtra, East Gujarat; Maharashtra; some parts of West Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal; and remaining parts of Assam, India Met Department (IMD) said.
FURTHER PROGRESS SEEN
Conditions are becoming favourable for further advance of the monsoon into some more parts of Gujarat State; remaining parts of Maharashtra; some more parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar; and remaining parts of Odisha and Bengal by tomorrow and day after.
The subsequent two days would likely see it entering the remaining parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and some parts of Uttar Pradesh during subsequent two days.
Pre-monsoon thunderstorm activity may commence over parts of North-West India from June 27. This is different from thunderstorms in the recent past which were attributed to western disturbances.
Meanwhile, a western disturbance is waiting just across the international border to enter Jammu & Kashmir and adjoining North-West Rajasthan.
But it may not be able to wield much influence over weather in North India since the monsoon easterlies from the Bay of Bengal are shown to gather strength soon and drive the former away.
A land-based circulation developing over East India, and not necessarily over the Bay, would be anchoring the flow of monsoon easterlies into Central and North-West India.
