Monster: Online hiring up 25% in July

Online hiring has surged 25 per cent in July 2014 compared to the same month last year, job portal Monster.com said on Tuesday.

According to the findings of the Monster Employment Index India, online recruitment has surpassed the year-ago level in 24 of the 27 industry sectors monitored by the index.

The home appliances category continued to lead all sectors as recruitment activity climbed 69 per cent above July 2013, the statement said. The sector has been witnessing an improvement since January this year.

Media and entertainment followed closely, with 63 per cent growth in online opportunities year-on-year. Travel and tourism saw 44 per cent growth.

Among the low-growth sectors, the automotive sector grew at 2 per cent. The sectors that witnessed a fall in online hiring in July 2014 compared to the same month last year were Government/ PSU/ Defence and office equipment/ automation. The sector that performed the worst was telecom/ISP, where hiring fell 17 per cent.

Interestingly, online demand for senior management professionals continued to escalate, with 59 per cent compared to the year ago. Engineering/production professionals witnessed double-digit growth in online demand, year-on-year, for the first time since April 2011, the company said.
