Are you a movie buff and tired of scanning the film listings to find a suitable movie over the weekend? Or, a film-maker finding it difficult to find a theatre to screen your film? How about scheduling a special screening of a movie at your convenience?
PVR Pictures, the film distribution firm arm of the PVR Group, is to launch a crowd-sourced platform for movie events next month. It allows people to schedule a screening.
The platform, backed by technology, will also help independent film-makers to directly launch their movies for selections by prospective patrons.“We are going to change the pyramid upside down. All these days, film buffs were going to theatres and watching movies as scheduled by exhibitors and film producers. We are opening a window to let people decide what to watch,” Kamal Gianchandani, Chief Executive Officer, PVR Pictures, told .
Kamal was in Hyderabad to take part in the Indywood Film Carnival being held at the Ramoji Film Festival.
“What we are doing currently is to programme shows and then sell tickets. In the new window, we are selling tickets first and then schedule a screening. You can organise movie screenings as per your convenience. People can do this using our website or an app that we will be launched soon for this,” he said.
If people can get an assured 50-60 tickets for a show, the firm will schedule a screening. The finer details are being worked out. The platform will be powered by technology that works in the background in pooling up the intent and scheduling.
On the PVR Cinemas, he said the firm is adding about 60-75 screens every year. The firm has a chain of 121 theatres and 550 screens in 50 cities.
Earlier discussing the ticket pricing, he argued that the film producers would like to have flexible ticket prices.
“Movies are perishable in nature. The urge to watch a movie diminishes after 2-3 days,” he said.
