Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) has launched a campaign to declare Yekkar, Bajpe and Malavoor gram panchayats that neighbour the refinery smoke-free.
A press release from the company said here on Wednesday that 132 families from the villages under these panchayats were given free LPG kits.
MRPL had distributed LPG kits to 372 families below poverty line (BPL) from Bala, Chelairu, Soorinje, Permude and Jokatte villages in 2016 and 2017.
M Venkatesh, Managing Director of MRPL, said the company had helped 293 families under its CSR programme this year. It is extending the benefit within the guidelines, he added.
