MVVS Murthy dies in car accident in US

Well known industrialist, founder of GITAM University, and ex MP of the Telugu Desam Party, MVVS Murthy (78), died in a car accident in the US.

According to reports, the accident happened when Murthy and his friends were on their way to a wildlife park between California and Alaska on Monday. Three others also succumbed to injuries. Murthy went to the US for a global alumni meet of the GITAM University to be held on October 6.

Beginning as a small businessman in the beverages sector in the 1970s, MVVS Murthy, also known as Goldspot Murthy, carved out a name in the field of education by establishing GITAM Engineering College at Visakhapatnam in 1980 and developed it into a deemed University.

He also entered politics by joining the TDP during the time of NT Rama rao and got elected to the Lok Sabha from the Visakhapatnam constituency. At present, Murthy is a sitting MLC in Andhra Pradesh. His death is a devastating loss to the party and family said Nara Lokesh, General Secretary of the TDP.
