Our Bureau The campus of Bankers’ Institute of Rural Development (BIRD) in Mangaluru will meet most of its energy requirements from solar energy in the coming months. BIRD is a training institute of Nabard.
K Lakshminarayanan, Joint Director of BIRD-Mangaluru, told media persons here the institute has decided to go solar this fiscal to meet its energy requirements. A 90 kw solar power plant will be established in the campus in four-five months, he added. The proposed plant will help meet around 75 per cent of the net energy demand of the campus, which currently pays around ₹1.5 lakh a month as power bill.
The plant will be set up under the RESCO (renewable energy service company) model, with no capital expenditure for the institute. The company installing the power plant will bear its cost, and sell power to the institute. of the plant.
