The nation today remembered Mahatma Gandhi on his 66th death anniversary with President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh leading the country in paying homage to the Father of the Nation.
Mukherjee, Vice-President Hamid Ansari and Singh paid floral tributes at Gandhi’s memorial in Rajghat here.
UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Defence Minister A.K Antony, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, senior BJP leaders L.K Advani and chiefs of the three services paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at his memorial.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his cabinet ministers – Rakhi Birla, Somnath Bharti, Satyendra Jain – also reached Rajghat to pay homage to the father of Nation.
Besides, a number of central ministers, leaders of various political parties and people from different walks of life were present at Gandhi's memorial at Rajghat.
A multi-faith prayer service was also organised with religious leaders of Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, Jains, Parsis and Sikhs participating in the programme.
Devotional songs were sung on the occasion.
Around 250 students from different schools were present during the programme.
