The Aam Aadmi Party has filed a complaint with the Election Commission against BJP's prime ministerial candidate from Varanasi Lok Sabha seat, Narendra Modi, for allegedly “bribing” voters.

In a press release, AAP alleged that sarees were distributed and said it had submitted images of saree gift packs with ‘Shree Tortoise Sarees’ written on them carrying Modi's photo and address of the supplier in Surat to the EC.

The party demanded registration that an FIR under Sections 171 B/E of the India Penal Code be registered against Modi for allegedly trying to bribe voters and said it had attached all relevant documents, photos and videos along with its complaint.

In a separate complaint to the EC, AAP drew its attention to the around Rs 6 crore expenditure incurred on April 24, the day Modi filed his nomination, which was preceded by a procession in Varanasi, the release said.

“The party has informed the EC that helicopter rental, hoardings and cut-outs bearing Modi's photographs will have to be included in its election expenditure. The cost of transportation of bringing and taking back people, the distribution of caps T-Shirts, sarees, masks, flags and scarfs - which were distributed in lakhs, according to BJP estimates, also need to be accounted for,” it said.
