Work on the Polavaram irrigation project on the Godavari River will be expedited and it will be dedicated to the nation in four years, according to Minister for Irrigation D Umamaheswara Rao.
He told reporters here on Friday that opposition to the Ordinance issued by the Union Government on merger of villages in Khammam district with AP was not justified and that leaders from Telangana should not politicise the issue. Rao said he would visit the Polavaram project site on June 16, after Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu releases a White Paper on irrigation projects on Saturday, to examine how much money was spent, the volume of work completed and to discuss the relief and rehabilitation of the people to be affected by the project.
The Minster said the relief and rehabilitation programme would be taken up for Girijans and non-Girijans of the seven mandals of Khammam district affected by the Polavaram project.
