Environmental NGO, Greenpeace in a press statement has said that there are close to 16 fault lines near the Jaitapur nuclear project site of which six are within the 5 km.
The 10,000 MW project is being constructed by Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) at Ratnagiri district in Maharashtra. The reactors would be imported from Areva, France.
The NGO has made the statement based on RTI query filed with NPCIL.
Greenpeace was allowed to examine the report in March 2014 under the RTI but was not allowed to make copies stating that the report is under review. If the report is still under review, then on what basis was site clearance granted to Jaitapur project, asked Hozefa Merchant, Greenpeace campaigner, in the statement.
