Two people were injured following a small explosion at the state-run National Medical College and Hospital in the northern parts of the city this morning.
Normal hospital activities, however, have remained unaffected.
According to hospital sources, two sweepers of the hospital were injured after a plastic container, supposedly carrying carbide, exploded. The explosion took place at the outdoor medicine department of the hospital.
However, there has been no report of any death of patient or hospital staff in the incident so far. Kolkata Police officials have deployed the bomb squad personnel and are investigating into the matter.
The West Bengal Disaster Management Minister, Mr Jawed Ahmed Khan, said that the police is already investigating into the matter to see whether it was case of neglect or sabotage.
