Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will plant on Monday the first of the 60 lakh saplings that the Mata Amritanandamayi Mutt is undertaking as part of an all-India afforestation programme.
The mutt will also kick off a scheme of raising more than six lakh plants in the State in the run-up to September 27, 60th birthday of spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi Devi. A non-governmental organisation, the mutt runs the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, a university, on a five-acre campus at Vallikavu in Kollam district. It also manages more than 50 Amritavidyalayam schools elsewhere.
