Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) handled 7.3 per cent more passengers, at 12.86 million, during financial year 2013-14 compared to the same period last year.

BIAL said the airport handled 10.23 million domestic and 2.63 million international travellers. Airlines also witnessed 35,259 travellers daily on average, with seat load factors of 69 per cent for domestic and 75 per cent for international flights, respectively. Air Traffic Movements were at 118,575 during the fiscal.

The airport witnessed an average of 325 ATMs per day and also experienced the highest year-on-year growth in ATM in the fiscal .

New domestic routes for the year include Imphal, Agatti, Surat, Mysore, Puducherry , Guwahati, Belgaum, Tuticorin, Indore and Dehradun.

Additionally, SpiceJet started international operations to Bangkok in October. Air Costa started domestic operations to Vijayawada and Jaipur.

“The growth in traffic is a sign for us that this is an airport of choice for domestic and international travellers.

Our focus will be to continue providing our passengers and airlines a seamless and unparalleled travel experience at this airport,” GV Sanjay Reddy, MD, BIAL said in a press release. Cargo volumes handled at the Kempegowda International Airport, as it is known, grew by 7 per cent at 242,426 tonnes.

The airport set up dedicated cargo bays to serve freighter aircraft and improve the air cargo supply chain. The airport caters to the trade needs of the SAARC region, Asia, China, Europe, the US, Canada, Oceania and West Asia.
