The Union Government has in-principle agreed to set up an AIIMS-like institute in Telangana. Union Minister for Health Harsh Vardhan has asked the State Government to suggest two-three probable sites with 200 acres each to locate the health institute.
A State Government statement said here on Monday that the Union Minister was responding to a letter by the Chief Minister, K Chandrasekhara Rao, on the issue.
The Chief Minister asked the Union Minister to consider sanctioning a teaching hospital to Telangana on the lines of All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
“The Chief Minister directed the officials to ready a proposal to submit to the Centre,” it said.
The State will have to allocate the land, power and water to the teaching institute, while the Centre takes care of the building hospital infrastructure and its maintenance.
