The Telangana issue rocked the Andhra Pradesh Assembly on the penultimate day of the monsoon session today.
The House had to be adjourned twice this morning as Telangana Rashtra Samiti members disrupted the proceedings demanding that a resolution be adopted seeking creation of Telangana state. The BJP supported the demand.
TRS and BJP MLAs trooped into the Well of the House holding placards and raising slogans in support of their demand.
Speaker Nadendla Manohar appealed to the members to return to their seats so that the Question Hour could be taken up.
But with the pro-Telangana members remaining unrelenting, the Speaker adjourned the House till 10.15 AM. However, there was no let up in the situation when the House re—assembled.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy sought to make an “appeal” in the House but the TRS members stood their ground in the Well.
“This is an absolutely helpless situation. The members are not co-operating in running the House,” the Speaker lamented and adjourned the House for an hour for the second time.
Earlier in the day, the Speaker disallowed the adjournment motions moved by the Opposition parties.
The TDP moved an adjournment motion on the fee reimbursement issue, while the TRS and the BJP moved a motion on the Telangana issue. The YSR Congress moved a motion on the erratic water supply for drinking and irrigation purposes.
The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen gave notice for an adjournment motion on the delay in conduct of elections to local bodies.
