AP Genco gets nod for 100 MW solar plants

The Andhra Pradesh Government has agreed to permit state-owned power utility Generation Corporation of Andhra Pradesh to set up 100 MW solar power plants close to the existing thermal and hydel power plants.

This move is part of the State Government plan to encourage renewable energy projects both solar and wind energy farms.

The Genco has been allowed to set up 100 MW of solar power projects at its existing sites. It has been authorised to raise funds from Power Finance Corporation and Rural Electrification Corporation.

After inspecting a one MW solar plant set up by AP Genco at Jurala Priyadarshini Hydel Power Project in the State, the Principal Secretary, Energy, Mr Dinesh Kumar, said the State would take up renewable energy projects in consultation with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). It is proposed to seek assistance under the Green Energy Fund.

To bridge the growing demand supply gap, it is proposed to encourage renewable energy projects.
