Though the Centre has decided that the appointed date for the creation of Telangana will be in June, the State will go to the polling booth as a united entity. According to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, Telangana has 17 Lok Sabha and 119 Assembly constituencies, while Seemandhra has 25 and 175, respectively. But the elections will be held for the 294 Assembly and 42 Lok Sabha constituencies in the united AP. Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath said the newly elected MLAs will become part of the new States once the bifurcation process is over.
“When the new state comes into being as per law they will automatically become MP and MLA of the newly created state from the appointed day. It is seamless,” he told reporters.
