The Andhra Pradesh Government is awaiting Central Government approval to take up three National Investment and Manufacturing Zones in the State while planning to develop infrastructure along the Chennai-Bangalore-Mumbai Industrial Corridor.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has proposed to develop the industrial corridor with part funding from Japanese agency. The State is keen to develop infrastructure along the corridor which passes through Nellore-Ananthapur and Hindupur, J. Geetha Reddy, State Minister for Major Industries, said.
Addressing industrialists and later media persons, she said the State Government has proposed three NIMZs at Medak, Chittoor and Prakasham districts in an area of about 5000 acres each with world class infrastructure under the Government NIMZ policy. "Once approved, we will develop them and attract manufacturing units to set up their bases in the State," she said.
Referring to the Industrial corridor coming up in the South, she said that the State proposes to develop infrastructure along the corridor which will become an attractive location for industries to come up providing rapid transport and quality infrastructure.
The Industries Department is closely monitoring the progress of mega projects and seeking to sort out bottlenecks they have.
Referring to the Partnership Summit, she said more than Rs 6,50,000 crore worth projects have been signed and now the focus is on their implementation.
When asked about the severe power crunch faced in the State impacting the power sector, the Minister said that all out efforts have been made to address the issue, including arranging for RLNG for power plants and purchase of power and setting up of renewable energy projects in the near term.
