The AP NGOs association and employees of Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (RTC) in 13 districts of Andhra and Rayalaseema regions will go on strike from Monday in protest against the proposed bifurcation of the State.
RTC buses are likely to go off the roads in view of the bandh and the management and Government are busy making alternative arrangements. The Joint Action Committee of Seemandhra University Students Association, which met at Nellore on Sunday has also called for bandh of educational institutions and business establishments on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
Meanwhile, the political situation in the State continues to be volatile. On Saturday, YSR Congress President and Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and party’s Honorary President Y.S. Vijayamma faxed their resignations to the Lok Sabha and Assembly membership respectively.
They resigned in protest against the manner in which the Congress party sought to bifurcate the State by creating Telangana State.
Earlier, the 16 YSRCP party MLAs also decided to resign.
In an open letter explaining the reasons for resignations, Reddy said: “It is not fair on your part to play with the future of the people of this State. If division is inevitable, what we ask is, it should be done in a manner which is agreeable to all stakeholders and no injustice meted out to anyone.”
